{"id":3298,"date":"2021-08-07T09:59:34","date_gmt":"2021-08-07T05:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/davvarenergy.com\/?page_id=3298"},"modified":"2022-02-19T11:55:09","modified_gmt":"2022-02-19T08:25:09","slug":"rtd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/davvarenergy.com\/en\/products\/temperature-measurement\/rtd\/","title":{"rendered":"RTD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"cz_gap clr \" style=\"height: 110px\"><\/div><div id=\"cz_14283\" class=\"cz_14283 cz_title clr cz_title_pos_inline tac\"><div class=\"cz_title_shape shape_square cz_shape_1\"><\/div><div class=\"cz_title_content\"><div class=\"cz_wpe_content\"><h2 style=\"margin-top: 6.65pt; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: 28px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Resistance Thermometer Detectors (RTD&#8217;s)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"cz_gap clr \" style=\"height: 20px\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div id=\"cz_105731\" class=\"cz_105731 cz_title clr cz_title_pos_right\"><div class=\"cz_title_content\"><div class=\"cz_wpe_content\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">The resistance that an electrical conductor exhibits to the \ufb02ow of an electric current is related to its temperature, essentially because of electron scattering effects and atomic lattice vibration. the basis of this theory is that free electrons travel through the metal as plane waves modi\ufb01ed by a function having the periodicity of the crystal lattice. the only little snag here is that impurities and what are termed lattice defects can also result in scattering, giving resistance variation. fortunately, however, this effect is largely temperature- independent, so does not pose too much of a problem ; we just need to be aware of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">In fact, the concept of detecting temperature using resistance is considerably easier to work with in practice than is thermocouple thermometry. \ufb01rstly, the measurement is absolute, so no reference junction or cold junction compensation is required. secondly, junction or cold junction compensation is required. secondly, straightforward copper wires can be used between the sensor and your instrumentation since there are no special requirements in this respect.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #0000ff;\">IEC 60751: RTD Standards And Tolerances<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">For the purposes of the IEC 60751: 1983 (BS EN 60751: 1996) standard, the RTD itself comprises the sensing resistor within its protective sheath (if applicable), internal connecting wires and external terminals for onward connection. Mounting equipment and connection heads can also be included. IEC 60751 actually applies to industrial devices, primarily sheathed, over the temperature range<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">-200\u00b0C to 850\u00b0C, and offers two tolerance classes, A and B \u2013 these de\ufb01ning the maximum deviation in degrees Celsius from the nominal temperature relationship table \ufb01gures. Class A RTD&#8217;s can show deviation of \u00b10.06 ohms (\u00b10.15\u00b0C) at 0\u00b0C, while class B sensors can be within \u00b10.12 ohms (\u00b10.3\u00b0C) at 0\u00b0C.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">Standard thermometers are constructed from platinum having an \u03b1 coef\ufb01cient of 3.85<strong>\u00d7 <\/strong>10\u22123<strong>\/<\/strong>\u00b0C, and have nominal resistances of 100 ohms or 10 ohms at 0\u00b0C, the latter harnessing heavier gauge wire, and being aimed at use in the range above 600\u00b0C. with 100 ohm devices, Class A only applies up to 650\u00b0C; also the A classi\ufb01cation is not applicable to two wire devices. Clearly, devices which conform to the standard as de\ufb01ned can be interchanged &#8211; always useful! See the reference and tolerance tables in this guide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">The standard also covers a range of other factors- but not construction. For example, the RTD&#8217;s have to be suitable for DC and AC current measuring systems \u2013 the latter up to 500Hz. So there are certain inductance and coupling constraints on design. Insulation resistance, response times, self-heating effects, immersion errors, thermo-electric effects, tests for temperature limits and temperature cycling, mechanical vibration and pressure effects are also speci\ufb01ed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">IEC 60751 also says that manufacturers can reveal electrical characteristics, like thermometer capacitance, capacitance to earth, and inductance, as well as the ohmic resistance of the internal connecting wires. Also, calibration immersion depth, minimum usable depth, thermal response time and self-heating effects can be stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;
